Connie Marie McCarty

Connie Marie McCarty, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away in her home October 22, 2016 surrounded by the love of her family, and with her children by her side. She left this earth after a lengthy battle with a number of illnesses. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carmella and James Draxler. She is survived by her 3 siblings, 8 beautiful children, her many grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Her soul is survived by her loyal companion, her “soulmate” and pet, Charlye. Connie attended Kearns St. Ann’s Catholic school, South High School, and was among the first graduating RN class of SLCC where she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree. Connie began her career as a musician with her band, Twice Is Nice, as lead vocals and drummer. Music was always a passion of hers. She later went on to work as an RN at PCMC bringing help and comfort to countless children and their families in the bone marrow transplant and oncology unit where she won a “Utah Nurse of the Year” award. She furthered her career at Salt Lake Regional and St. Mark’s Hospital as a NICU nurse where she took pleasure in helping care for newborn infants who were struggling. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her children who were everything to her and more. She loved thrift shopping, crafts, knitting, and crocheting anything under the sun. Above all, she loved caring for others. Connie was a remarkable woman who lived an extraordinary life. She was a good friend and the world’s most amazing mother. For more than 50 years, she raised 8 children on her own. She could and would do anything for her children. She was truly selfless and always willing to go above and beyond, forever putting others before herself. It was in her nature to be a miracle worker and could make the impossible, possible. She was a woman who lived outside the box. She had no hesitation to strive and thrive forward to be who she was, and only ever wanted validation for the way she lived from the people whose opinion she valued - her children. She was incredible, beautiful, smart, and undeniably strong. She was a breast cancer survivor. Her sheer determination was with her all the way to the end. There is no doubt that Heaven received a very special angel. She will be the best angel in God’s temple. She is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. Her family would like to thank all of her friends, physicians, and caregivers who assisted in her health and well-being. A very special thanks to Connie’s loving daughter, Chantel, for her unwavering dedication to Connie’s health, happiness, and well-being through many years. Connie requested a Rosary service in her memory. The service will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, SLC, on Friday, October 28th at 1:00 p.m. followed by a light lunch.
