Marlene Serena Mitchell

Marlene “Mars” Serena Mitchell, passed away at home in Salt Lake City, Utah, December 2nd 2022 at the age of 62. Mars was born Dec 11th, 1959 in the beautiful state of Oregon in the city of Nyssa. She moved to Utah at six years old. She thoroughly enjoyed her youth and loved the outdoors, hiking, Provo canyon, the slide at the Dell, and going to school. She loved the beauty of Nature. She was a lifelong student and loved to read whether it was books on cutting edge medical technology, Sci-Fi, or how to remove stubborn belly fat. She raised her kids in the beautiful Texas hills of Bourne before moving back to Utah. She spent the majority of her adult life as an Oncology Nurse after receiving a Bachelors Degree from the University of Utah. She helped countless souls brave their battles with cancer in the Bone Marrow Transplant Ward and then assisted in the opening of the Huntsman Cancer Institute as a clinical Research Nurse. She binged fantasy and natural disaster movies, any and all Star Trek seasons, and could easily point out a compound fracture on the E.R. television series. She loved german chocolate cake Almond Rocas, and being sweet to people. She loved space and visited the Kennedy Space Center. She was a longtime member of The LDS faith holding many callings and was extremely passionate about the rights of women and children, especially those who were disabled or had been abused. Most of all she was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Daughter. Mars is survived by her mother Jena V. Mitchell, her beautiful children Evelyn Michaelson(Lawrence), DeeDee Zepeda(Brett), Joseph, Sara, and Anita; Her Grandchildren Raquelle, Aurelia, Hyrum, Tavio, Lily, Kya, Chloe, Bradley and Haley; Her sisters Jerna(Roy), Barbara(Lynn), Corleneda “Annie”; her brother Morgan(Tracy), and her once extensive snow globe collection. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Wesley, her brother Benjamin, her Maternal and Paternal grandparents, her cousin Bobby, and aunt Wanda. Special thanks to all those who have served her especially Bishop Edwards, Bishop Nickolaisen, Hope and Ross, Tina, Jeanne, Cheryl and Mike, Claudia, Jill, Kandace and all the sisters in the Forestview Ward, LaVerkin 3rd ward and the Salt Lake 10th Ward. A memorial service will be held in her honor Saturday 2:00 p.m. December 17th at the Millcreek 2nd Ward Chapel @ 4220 South Jeannine Drive Salt Lake City, Utah 84107 According to her final wishes her ashes will be scattered at sea.
