Carleen Jean Tarpinian Larsen

Carleen Jean Tarpinian Larsen, 69, passed away on March 17, 2019 at her home in Orem, Utah, after a 6 year battle with colon cancer. She was born on July 16, 1949, in Portland, Maine to Carl & Blanche Tarpinian. She married E. Fred Larsen on February 12, 1976 in the Manti, Utah LDS temple. Carleen was born and raised in Portland Maine. She grew up near the ocean, and always loved the beach. Although she spent most of her adult life in Utah, her heart was with the ocean, and visited it any chance she could. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Portland Maine, and later attended the University of Maine. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and taught school in Maine for 2 years, before moving to Utah. While in Maine, she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 22, 1972. Shortly after moving to Utah, she met Fred, and they were later married. Carleen worked for many years, before retiring, as Dental Office Manager. She was very active as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities in the Church, including, Relief Society President, Primary President and in the Young Women's organization. Carleen loved to serve anyone she met. Carleen served in the Family History Headquarters Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. Later she worked in the Provo Temple as an ordinance worker where she made many great friends. Carleen was known as a great friend. Carleen could find someone she knew everywhere she went; in the rare case she couldn't, she wouldn't hesitate to befriend someone new. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Carleen is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, E. Fred Larsen of Orem, UT, her father, Carl Tarpinian of Portland, ME, her four sons, Chris Larsen (Annalee) of Mapleton, UT, Jay Larsen (Shyla) of Lehi, UT, Patrick Larsen (Andrea) of American Fork, UT, Peter Larsen (Whitney) of Eagle Mountain, UT; 13 grandchildren; her brother Mike (Nancy) Tarpinian, Westbrook, ME, and her sister Jayne Heatley (Roger Lablanc), Saco, ME. Carleen was preceded in death by her mother Mary Blanche Tarpinian. Thank you to all of those at Utah Cancer Specialist and IHC Hospice who having lovingly cared for Carleen and her family during her battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held, Saturday March 23, 2019 at the LDS chapel 828 W 1600 N in Orem, UT at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held Friday March 22, 2019 from 6:00-7:30 PM at the church; and also from 10:00-10:45 AM on Saturday before the service. Interment will follow at Orem City Cemetery.
