Ellen Carter Jackson

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Grammy, sister, aunt, and friend, Ellen Carter Jackson. Ellen was born on March 8, 1940 to Jessie Ellen Welsh and Verenus Joseph Carter at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ellen was the fourth of nine siblings- Carol Harris (Ron), Glen Carter, Hazel Kremer (Bob), Ellen Jackson (Gaylen), Jan Lyman (Gary), Mary Walker (Steve), Lauraine Snow (David), Gary Carter (Linda), and Ray L. Carter. Ellen lived a very exciting childhood- her mother and father owned an airport and her father was a pilot. She grew up living at the airport with her siblings in Draper, Utah. During her teenage years, she was proudly crowned Miss Draper. On April 6, 1958, she was married to Lynn Ott. They were married for 20 years and during that time she gave birth to five wonderful children- Steve Ott (Kristen), Cameron Ott (Kris), Suzanne Ott Borelo, John Ott, and Angie Bynum. In 1986, Ellen was married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to her sweetheart, Gaylen Jackson, and gained four amazing stepchildren (Deborah Cole, Eric Jackson, Denise Jackson, and Marcia Foster). They were married for two cherished months before Gaylen’s untimely passing. Ellen was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was honored to be able to serve an LDS mission during 1995 in the Washington Spokane Mission. She loved playing and listening to the piano, doing acts of service, learning about family history, giving thoughtful gifts to her family, and above all else, spending time with her loved ones. Ellen passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023 at the age of 83 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband (Gaylen Jackson), parents (Vern and Jessie Carter), sisters (Carol Harris and Hazel Kremer), brother (Glen Carter), and granddaughter (Aaryn Bynum). She is survived by her five children, four stepchildren, five siblings, eighteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many more loved ones. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the LDS chapel located at 575 S 400 W, Orem, Utah. The family will receive friends and loved ones who would like to give their condolences during a viewing from 9:30am-10:30am. The funeral service will be held from 11:00am-12:30pm, and the graveside service will be held at the American Fork City Cemetery located at 26 West 600 North, American Fork, Utah, from 1:00pm-1:30pm. Ellen’s children would like to sincerely thank Saria Ott for her many acts of service to Ellen throughout her lifetime. The family would also like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Spring Hollow, Belle Vie Hospice, and the Cascades at Orchard Park for the special care given to Ellen until the end of her life on Earth. Grammy, we love you and will miss you SO much!
