Emma Jean Johnson Vest

Emma Jean Johnson Vest, 90, passed away peacefully August 15, 2016 surrounded by many family members who loved and were blessed by her life well lived. Jean was born June 10, 1926 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the daughter of Henry J. and Bernice H. Johnson. On September 12, 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Dean Shepherd Vest, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have five children. Jean was an expert seamstress and accomplished homemaker, canning everything her husband raised or produced. Having grown up during the depression, she was a master at making her house feel like a home of plenty. Her children were sent to school dressed in the best, all made with her loving hands. Family always came first. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Jean served in many capacities, her favorite being the homemaking counselor in the Relief Society. She worked at the Bernina Sewing Chalet for over 30 years teaching hundreds the art of sewing. She loved working with and serving others. Jean played the violin in her high school orchestra. Classical music and the “big band” oldies were special favorites of hers. Her hobbies included sewing, canning, camping with her family, reading and socializing. She loved being part of the Amity Club, which she and the women of her high school graduating class started during WWII and it continues to this day. Jean and her husband also enjoyed spending winters in St George. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Colleen (Vern) Ohm, her husband Dean, Her son-in-law Henry Hansgen, and great grandsons, Dagen Petroff Hansgen and Ivan Mike Peterson. She is survived by her brother, Howard (Elaine) Johnson; children Randy (Kris) Vest, Bonnie (Henry) Hansgen, Colette (David) Wahlen, Robyn (Gene) Peterson, and MerriLyn (Dan) Gotter; 28 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren. She lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 20th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lehi 20th Ward building, 150 East 1500 North, Lehi, Utah. A viewing will be held at 10:00 that same day.
