Fran B Nicholes 1940-2014 Our beloved and adored wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend passed away from a heart attack on February 13, 2014. She was surrounded by her family. She was 73 years old. She was born July 7, 1940 in Phoenix, Arizona to Ken Boyle and Lulu Smith. It was here she was raised and educated through high school. The first time she saw snow and owned a coat was when she attended Brigham Young University where she secured a degree in Elementary Education and later a Master’s Degree. While there she met her eternal companion Verlin Nicholes. They were married in the Manti Temple Oct 12th 1962. This love has celebrated 51 years of marriage. Verlin and Fran are the parents of 4 children who feel loved and cherished. She was a tremendous and memorable teacher for all those lucky enough to have her as a teacher. She taught elementary school in Orem, California, and 20 consecutive years as a 6th grade teacher at Valley View Elementary in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Mrs. Nicholes (as she was known) had a fun, creative and unique personality and teaching style that was truly impressionable on her students and those she worked with. It was a common occurrence to have students come back and visit her even after many years. And yes, we did run spell check for this. She considered her most important and sacred teaching role was that in the home as a mother and grandmother. Fran loved nature and the outdoors. She found ways to couple this love with her teaching abilities. She helped create and develop many programs at the Alpine School District Clear Creek Camp and as a pioneer at the LDS Heber Valley Girls Camp. Fran created Botany, Geology, and History programs. With a fun and witty way that only Fran could make happen, she brought these programs to life and they are implemented and affecting the lives of thousands still today. You’re welcome world. Fran was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed the scriptures and studying about different topics. She magnified each calling that she served in including, Young Women Presidency, Primary Presidency, Boy Scouts, Sunday School teacher and Relief Society. She has served two multi-year missions with her husband. One at the Heber Valley Girls Camp and one at the Bishop’s Store House in Lindon. Two years ago she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. This did not stop her. With her positive and get it done attitude, she has shown us how to live life and enjoy the moment. She always said that she wanted to go fast. With this heart attack her wishes have been granted. As an elect lady, faith and her family were her cornerstones. She will be greatly missed. Survived by his children: Marc (Shitomi), Jana Valerio (Jared), Lance (Jodi), and Eric (Kate). We invite you to join with us to honor Fran’s life on February 19th at 731 East Center Street Lindon, Utah 84042 with a viewing from 9-10:30am and funeral services starting at 11:00am. Her final resting place will be at the Lindon City Cemetery. Fran has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints’ Perpetual Education Fund.
