Frank Delano Wengert

With tender hearts we said goodbye to Frank Delano Wengert, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, in the early morning hours of August 27, 2022. Having lived a long, and full life, due to age related causes, he returned home to his Heavenly Father’s waiting arms peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Frank was born on July 6, 1928 to Delano Frank Wengert and Clare Dorothy Taylor in Las Vegas, Nevada. His family lived periodically in Nevada, Utah and California. Frank met the love of his life, Irene Leavitt Wengert, a 13 year blonde toe-head who fell head over heels in love with Frank, and he with her. After a five year romance, they were married on July 16, 1949 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After graduating from Las Vegas High School he was drafted into the U.S. Navy, where he served as a pharmacist mate in an Hawaiian Naval Hospital. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he began his college education, under the G.I. bill and received an Associates Degree. He continued his education at USC and remained a Trojan fan until the end. He began his career, and his family, with Union Pacific Railroad, as a 3 rd generation railroad executive. Frank’s job took them to various parts of California, Idaho and Washington. He finished his career with Union Pacific Railroad as a Division Engineer in Los Angeles. Frank had three passions in life; his family, his church service, and golf. He served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in numerous capacities, including as Bishop, Stake Patriarch in two stakes, as counselor to three mission presidents, a temple ordinance worker in two temples, and dozens of other areas of responsibility, blessing the lives of so many. Frank will always be remembered for his love and devotion of his family and the Savior, his gift of healing, his beautiful penmanship, his insistence on having a clean car, his crisp white shirts, his support of the desires and endeavors of his family members, being on time, polished shoes, his love of animals, dancing, watching sports, and his secret desire to conduct the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He and his wife Irene, are survived by their six children; Dennis Wengert (Maureen), Shelley Shelton (David), Jan Wengert, Lisa McCammon (David), Kathryn Elliott (Robert) and Cynthia Andrus (Randy), 28 grandchildren and 97 great-grandchildren, who all love and adore Grandpa Frank. Services for Frank will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, viewing at 9:00 a.m., services at 10:00 a.m., at the Snow Springs LDS church building, 1801 West 700 South, Lehi, Utah 84043.
