Hal Rex Sheppard

Hal Rex Sheppard 12/15/43 – 9/7/19 Hal Rex Sheppard, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 7th in his home in Draper, Utah at the age of 75. Hal was born on December 15th, 1943 in Springville, Utah to Rex & Silvia Sheppard. Hal has been married to Anita Sheppard for the last 56 years. They were married in Salt Lake City on July 9, 1963. Hal was the second-to-oldest of five children. Spending his childhood and adolescent years growing up in Springville, Utah. Many years were spent playing baseball and learning to hunt with his father. Shortly after graduating from Springville High School, Hal met Anita Archuleta while he was working in Salt Lake City. They dated briefly and got married in 1963. Quickly after settling into marriage, Hal was drafted to the Army and served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 as a Field Medic. After returning from the service, Hal & Anita lived in Springville while Hal attended Brigham Young University and worked at Geneva Steel. Hal’s career at Geneva Steel lasted as they moved to Salt Lake City and then bought their first home in West Valley City. It was there that their first child, Jason Rex Sheppard, was born in 1975. In 1978, Hal, Anita, and Jason moved to Sandy, Utah. In 1981, they had their second child, Ryan Hal Sheppard. Hal retired from Geneva Steel in mid 80’s, went into real estate for several years, worked for Linford Brothers Glass as a Sales Rep and finished his career at Whitewater Whirlpool & Bath working there close to 20 years. In 2006, when the need arose, Hal & Anita adopted and raised two of their grandchildren, Rheanna & Ryan Sheppard. Hal had a heart of gold and would be the first to help anyone in need. Since 1993, the family lived in a beautiful home in Draper, where Hal lived until the time of his passing. Throughout the years, there weren’t many weeks that went by that Hal was not found on the golf course with close friends, fishing at Scofield or in the mountains hunting & camping. Hal also enjoyed traveling, with several special trips to Mexico, New York City and a once in a lifetime trip to Augusta, GA to watch the Masters Golf Tournament. More than anything, Hal loved spending time in the mountains with friends, relatives and also teaching his sons Jason & Ryan to love the outdoors the way he had. Hal was brave, strong, fearless and never afraid of an adventure. Hal had a great sense of humor, liked to tease most people, and loved a practical joke. Hal Rex Sheppard is survived by Anita Dulcinea Sheppard, Jason Rex Sheppard, Julie Sheppard, Ryan Hal Sheppard, Rheanna Caprice Sheppard, Ryan Ray Sheppard, Bridger Jason Sheppard & Logan Hal Sheppard, Helen (Alan) Perry, Roy (Marlene) Sheppard, & Donna Sheppard. Hal was proceeded in death by Rex Sheppard, Sylvia Sheppard, Marcelino Archuleta, Antonia Archuleta, Ila Hulce, Mabel Trujillo, Ray Archuleta, & George Archuleta. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 12:00pm at the Meadows 6th Ward located at 420 East Stokes Avenue, Draper, UT 84020. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday evening, September 11th from 6-8pm at that same location and on Thursday morning from 10:30am – 11:30am prior to the Funeral Services. Graveside services will be held following the funeral service at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, located at 17111 S. 1700 W. Bluffdale, UT, 84065.
