Lou Ann Montague

Lou Ann (Gongaware) Montague, 70, peacefully passed away on 19 June, 2024 in West Valley City, UT. She was born on 12 May, 1954 to Earle and Geraldine Gongaware in Pennsylvania. She attended Cyprus High School and then Snow College where she earned an Associates degree in Journalism. Lou Ann considered her 2 children and 5 grandchildren her greatest treasures. Lou Ann spent the last 17 years with a wonderful man, Melvin Radford, (preceded her in death in February 2023) who kept her supplied with collectible bunnies. Lou loved bragging about her kids and grandchildren (even the fur babies) and her dog Molly. Lou adored baby farms animals, and never passed up the chance to pet a baby goat. She worked for many years at Jefferson Junior High in West Valley City, in many different roles from resource aid to truancy officer; she was fond of many of the kids she worked with throughout her years there. She loved her travels up the Oregon coast into Canada and Yellowstone, particularly trips to Bear World where she was able to hold a bear cub. She was known to friends as an incredible cook and baker, people loved her lemon bars and some say she invented the family favorite ‘cheesy onions’. Her pasta sauce is comparable to what you could find in Italy (yes, it was really that good). Crochet was one of her favorite hobbies and she made many beautiful blankets for others. She loved to garden and had beautiful flower patches at her home in West Valley. Lou would read any book or magazine she could get her hands on. She treasured the memories of her shopping and lunch dates with her best friend Julie. Survived by: Her children: Diana (Matt) Roblyer (Herriman, UT) and Michael (Emily) Montague (Las Vegas, NV). Her grandchildren: Chloe Roblyer, Jordan Roblyer and Jaeger, Pepper, and Phoebe Montague. Her siblings: Ed (Lisa) Gongaware (Hallsville, MO) and family, Alice Tyler (Sandy, UT) and family, and Merle (Mary) Gongaware (West Valley City, UT) and family. Lou had many wonderful nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. The family would like to thank the following: Lisa Benudiz, thank you for the time you spent caring for and being Lou and Mel’s friend; Lou said many times she loved you like a daughter. Thank you to the nursing staff at Alpine Meadow that took wonderful care of Lou for the past 13 months. The entire ICU team at Jordan Valley West, especially Lou’s nurses Courtney, Will, and Julie: you made an extremely difficult time easier and your care and gentleness was very appreciated.
