Luana Mae Besendorfer

Luana Mae Besendorfer was born March 21, 1931 and passed away April 21, 2026 at the age of ninety-five. Married to Andrew Harold Besendorfer, who predeceased her. She is the last survivor of her immediate family, having outlived her parents, Thelma and Al Morton, and sisters Dorothy Yost, Donna Turner and Darlene Phillips and their spouses. Survived by two sons and their spouses, Mark and Cindy Besendorfer and Todd Besendorfer and Theresa Husarik , two grandchildren, Cassie Vang (Seth) and Eden Sceili (Spencer) and her great-grandchildren Oaklynn and Melo Sceili. She loved her grand children and great-grandchildren dearly and her eyes lit up when they came to visit. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved as well. Luana grew up during the Great Depression. in a two-bedroom house with her 3 sisters, sleeping two in a bed, feet-to-head and using one bathroom for the whole family. She never felt without, but there was a not a lot of extra. She started work at the phone company, when there was only one, and there met Andrew, Harold to most people. He flirted and teased her into going out with him, and they were married on November 21st, 1952. The family lived in Granger and two sons were born, Mark and Todd. Soon, Harold’s union business took him and the family to Denver, Colorado. They loved the mountains around Denver and spent almost every weekend camping and fishing. Harold was away on business a lot, almost every summer, sometimes for months at a time. Luana had to do double duty, yet never lost a chance to take the boys picnicking or fishing. She took the boys to see live plays in the park and trips to the museum. But Luana missed her family in Utah, so when Harold’s term in the union was over, they moved back to Utah, first to Midvale where she worked at the bank, and then, when the boys were out of the nest, to Midway, where Harold was from, and where he always wanted to return. At first, Luana wasn’t keen on the idea of living in Midway, where she knew no one, but as she met so many fine people there, she grew to love it. Luana was active in her church in Midway and she was proud to be a member, and playing and traveling, with the Midway Bell Ringers for many years. She was an avid crafter, always working on some project. As her budget grew (Harold passed away), her inventory of craft items grew exponentially. Soon, a patio had to be sacrificed, closed in and filled with shelves and shelves of styrofoam and wooden forms. All of which had to be downsized or stored in Todd’s garage for a decade or so when she moved into first, a double-wide trailer, and then, to assisted living. She scrapbooked everything, from her beautiful colorings to recipes and craft ideas. She saved and catalogued thousands of photographs, including pictures of her trip to Scotland where she crossed off number one on her bucket list. Through all of the trials and tribulations, she seldom complained. She was still laughing at her recent 95th birthday. Special thanks to the caring people at Meadow Park Assisted Living for the love and attention they provided to her for her last months. Graveside services will be at the Midway Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 30th.
