Maria Elizabeth Smania

Maria Elizabeth Smania passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 surrounded by loving family. Born October 29, 1932 in Rio Cuarto, Argentina to Rosa Maria Diaz de Pignocchi. Elizabeth married Joseph Renato Smania (Pepe) in Dec 1953 in Rosario, Argentina and later sealed in the Swiss Temple September, 1962. She was an active member of the church since she and her husband first met the missionaries in Rosario in 1958. Elizabeth lived the gospel and a life of service until the day she left this earth to join her family in heaven and reunite with her eternal companion. Her life touched many people wherever she went, through her and Pepe's years in Argentina, Italy, Switzerland and eventually, The United States. Elizabeth served the Church in many ways, as a Temple worker in Switzerland as well as through her callings as a Sunday School teacher and as a Relief Society President. Her strong testimony and unwavering faith was an inspiration to all of us. Elizabeth moved to Utah in 1972 and began working for the Spanish Section of the Translation Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day until the day she retired after 25 years of service.There she worked devotedly on the Spanish magazine the Liahona, manuals for the classes of the different Auxiliary Organizations of the church. And lately also collaborated with of the LDS edition of the Spanish Bible, (Reina-Valera) as well of the Guarani Book of Mormon, published in 2009. She was always proud of what she did and felt blessed to do such work. She is survived by her children Graciela O´Hara, Robert and Christian; Grandchildren Mandy, Christina, David, Samantha, Danielle, Bree, Mandy, Hannah, Christian Jr. and 19 great grand children. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and her mother Rosa. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, December 6, 2014 at the Manila 2nd. Ward, 950 East 850 North, American Fork. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral, beginning at 1:00 pm. Internment will be at the American Fork Cemetery.
