Myrle Wright Barker Allen “Nanny” Myrle Elsie Wright Barker Allen, wife, mother, Nanny, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend passed away peacefully on July 17, 2015. She had a zest for life, enduring to the end with faith and courage. Myrle was born November 20, 1918 in Salt Lake City, the second daughter of Thaoe Tracy Wright and Elsie Ahlstrom Wright. She attended Granite High School, Utah State University and LDS Business College. On June 30,1942 she was sealed to her favorite missionary, Kenneth Kitchener Barker, whom she met as they both served in the Southern States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they raised 4 children as they moved from the “old farm” to Sugarhouse to Holladay... bowling, dancing and boating through life until Ken died in 1970. Myrle married L. Lynn Allen on November 12,1975. They put on their dancing shoes and found sweet companionship until his death in 1994. She cherished her testimony and membership in the LDS church serving as RS President and in various callings. She enjoyed being a hostess at the Beehive House for over 20 years. “Nanny” loved her “grandchildren’s Christmas party,” as her home was filled with the fragrance of her famous English toffee and warm memories. She had a passion for so many things! Always dressed to perfection, so pretty in pink! If a was band playing, she was dancing. If there was music, she was singing. If there was a book, she was reading, fulfilling her quest for knowledge. She was an enthusiast for social gatherings, traveling and simply to be on the go! Through her example we learned to be faithful, to smile through our trials and that “you are never too old” to progress and live life to the fullest. She is survived by her children, Jeff (Charlene) Barker, Shauna Dorius, Randy (Linda) Barker and David (Debbie) Barker; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; sisters; Kay Schultz and Anita Mumford. Also survived by Lynn’s daughters, Jennie Creer, Nancy Lund, Lanny Barnard, Leslie Brown and Kerry Hawthorne. Preceded in death by parents, husband, Kenneth K. Barker, husband L. Lynn Allen, son-in-law, Richard G. Dorius, sisters, Evelyn Rodeback, Alice VandenAkker, Lois Enders and Verna Metcalf. The family expresses gratitude to The Wellington staff and to her ward family who sweetly cared for and loved her to the end. Funeral services will be Monday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. Olympus 1st Ward Chapel 4100 So. Camille St.(2522 E.) Friends may call at the chapel, Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday 9:30-10:45 a.m. Burial will be at Elysian Burial Gardens 1075 E. 4580 So.
