Philip Reed Davis

Philip Reed Davis 1935 ~ 2014 Philip Reed Davis, 78, of Provo, passed away peacefully at his home on February 22, 2014 surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren who loved him. He was born September 11, 1935, to Rex and Lillian Hanks Davis, in Twin Falls, Idaho. His family moved to Salem, Utah where he was reared on a dairy and agriculture farm developing a strong work ethic that would become his trade-mark. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1953, He served a mission to the British Isles for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1956-1958. During his mission service he grew to know and love his Father in Heaven and Savior. He never faltered in his devotion to, and trust in, them. Phil married Patricia Ann Bean of Oregon City, Oregon on September 8, 1960 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with 12 children and three foster children. Phil loved reading Gospel oriented books and acquired a sizable personal library. He attended both Utah State University and Brigham Young University before becoming an Electrical Contractor and owner of Davis Electrical Contracting in 1968. Phil was actively involved in his church and community serving in several church callings including Scout Master; a position he loved and held for many years. He was a Priesthood advisor for the YW Camp for several years and was affectionately known as Big D. He ran for the Utah State Legislature; served for many years on the Provo City Board of Appeals; and was a Delegate to the Utah State Republican Convention. He was a Golden Eagle in the NRA and was an active member for 25 years. Phil planted a large garden every year and enjoyed fishing and hunting. At the age of 75 he participated in the Huntsman Senior Olympics Softball Tournament, a sport he had enjoyed his entire life. Phil is survived by his wife Pat; sons; Alan (Suzanne) Davis, Russell (Kayleen) Davis, Larry (Frances) Davis, Michael (Tish) Davis, Mark (Scarlet) Davis, Scott Davis, Chuck (Ana) Davis; daughters, Lori (Sean) Barry, Judi (Jeremy) Shaw, Tami (Troy) Ropelato, Jaci (Daniel) Spradlin; 49 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Evelyn (Lew) Christensen, Nedra (George) Curtis, Karen (Stan) Riding; and his brother Arnel (Deanna) Davis; Foster daughter, Dusty Pyper. He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Jacob Davis, his granddaughter Brinley Ramona Davis, and his parents. A viewing will be held Friday, February 28, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Saturday, March 1, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Bonneville 13th ward chapel, 1498 East 800 South Provo. A funeral service will follow from 11:00 AM Interment will immediately follow at the Salem City Cemetery located at 130 East 965 South, Salem, UT. Funeral services are being handled by Serenicare
