Richard Lynn Fowler

Richard Lynn Fowler, 71, passed away on July 16th 2023, surrounded by his loved ones at his home. He was born February 27th of 1952, in Salt Lake City to George And Geneal Fowler. He spent the last 46 years married to his best friend and love of his life Cindy. Richard grew up in Centerville and graduated from Viewmont High School and was an Eagle Scout. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict where he was stationed in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged at which time he returned to Utah and attended the University of Utah. He began his law enforcement career with the Salt Lake City Police Department and served for 25 years. He then served an additional 14 years with the Salt Lake County Sheriff Office before retiring from law enforcement. Richard was a talented artist and could draw and airbrush just about anything. Anybody who knew him knows that he loved Halloween and was known for creating one of a kind Halloween displays. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, game nights, but most importantly, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life. There’s not a Lagoon ride you could not talk him into riding with you. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and siblings since his retirement and spent a lot of time traveling around the western United States the last few years. Richard was a Bigfoot enthusiast, loved anything sci-fi or paranormal, monsters, and scary movies. In fact, on his last vacation, he was so excited to visit Willow Creek, Bigfoot country. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, his children Shelle (Matt) Estes, Dustin (Amanda) Fowler, Cassie (Jared) Garcia, Clint (Ashley) Fowler, daughter-in-law Denean Fowler, 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings Bill, Janet, Kerry, Jean, and Scott. Preceded in death by his parents and son, Shawn Fowler. Services will be held Tuesday, July 25th at 11 a.m. at the LDS church located at 2811 S. 6400 W., West Valley City. A viewing will be held Monday July 24th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday prior to services from 09:30-10:30 a.m. both also at the LDS church. Interment will be at the Wasatch Memorial Gardens at 3401 S. Highland Drive.
