Roy Evans Thomson

ROY EVANS THOMSON 8/6/1926-11/27/2013 Roy Evans Thomson, 87, left peacefully on November 27th, 2013 in his home in Bountiful with the love of his life near him. Roy was born August 6th, 1926 in Malad, Idaho to the proud parents of George and Rose Thomson. He and his twin brother Ren completed the family that grew to thirteen. Roy spent much of his childhood on the family farm working and causing mischief to his twin and his pa. At the young age of seventeen, Roy dropped out of high school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 25th, 1944. During his time on the USS COTTLE, he was an apprentice Seaman which taught him the knowledge of life skills and gave him the opportunity to earn his GED. On May 30th, 1946 he was given an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy as Seaman First Class. Roy returned home to Malad, Idaho where he married the love of his life Alma Lou Chivers on September 28th 1946 (sealed in the Bountiful LDS Temple on March 16, 2005). Soon after their marriage they moved to Ely, Nevada where he began working for Utah Wholesale. During the twelve years in Ely, daughters Shelley and Debra were born. In 1959 he moved his family to Bountiful, Utah where he has spent the rest of his life. After retiring from IML and PST, he loved watching his grandchildren in their various activities. He enjoyed reading, fishing and watching sports and could smoke a mean fish. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Alma Lou Thomson. Daughter Shelley Wood, grandchildren Misty (Rob), Ryan (Jessica), Richard (Melissa), The joys of his life great-grandchildren, Trevor, Madison, Easton, Alivia, Harper, Mavis. Along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and family. Roy is preceded in death by his daughter Debra L. Trump and son-in-law Grant Wood. His parents George A. and Rose Evans Thomson as well as his ten siblings. The life of Roy Evans Thomson will be celebrated on Monday December 2, 2013. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints at 2651 S 500 W Bountiful, UT. Followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery. Thank you to all who loved and cared for our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
