Sharon Marie Yeulande Cox

Sharon Marie Yeulande Cox passed away on May 30, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 68. Sharon was born on July 27, 1957, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, to Juanita DaCosta and Harold Lloyd Cox. Jamaica remained dear to her heart throughout her life. Though she later made her home in the United States, she had a deep love for the island of her birth, its people, culture, music, and traditions. She delighted in sharing that love with family and friends through stories, meals, and memories. Those who knew Sharon remember her bright smile, joyful spirit, generous heart, and her deep faith in Jesus Christ. She had a remarkable ability to help people feel welcome in her life. Friends describe her as lively, fun-loving, kind, and encouraging. She was always happy to share a meal, open her home to someone in need, or be a listening ear. Sharon had a gift for helping people feel seen, valued, and loved. One of the most important influences in her life was her own beloved grandmother, Wilhel Maude Morrison, whose devotion and example left a lasting impression upon her. Her grandmother’s lessons on faith, compassion, perseverance, and service shaped her early life and remained with her throughout her years. Sharon met her life’s opportunities and challenges with determination, resourcefulness, and courage. After immigrating to the United States, she worked diligently to build a life for herself and her . She raised her daughters, Tracy and Ashley, whom she loved deeply and to whom she remained steadfastly devoted throughout her life. She cared deeply about their happiness, growth, and wellbeing and never stopped believing in their potential. Sharon was both creative and entrepreneurial. After immigrating to New York from Jamaica, she opened a beauty salon and spent many years working as a hairstylist, a profession she truly loved. Later, after settling in Utah, she owned and operated a salon there as well. She loved the relationships she formed with those she served. For many years, Sharon also served as a secretary with the Utah Office of Science and Technology. And later in life, she devoted her talents to hospitality, welcoming travelers into her home and making it a place where guests felt comfortable, and at ease. Sharon loved learning. She was naturally curious, thoughtful, and eager to improve herself. She loved studying the gospel of Jesus Christ and sharing what she was learning with others. She sought truth earnestly and pursued a path of faith, as best she could, and with conviction. Through her example, her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and her willingness to act upon what she believed, she established a spiritual legacy that continues to bless her family today. She also possessed an incredibly adventurous spirit. There was a time when she loved to travel and enjoyed exploring new places, including memorable travels through the Pacific Northwest and Jamaica. Yet she was equally content at home tending to her beautiful garden, decorating her home, preparing meals for loved ones, and creating beauty in her hobbies and pastimes. Many have experienced her love that came through her hands as she prepared delicious meals. Her children and grandchildren embers forward to her curry chicken and rice and peas, and her pecan pie at Christmas – a beloved family tradition. One pie was often not enough to satisfy everyone’s appetite. Her grandchildren and son-in-law loved it so much that Sharon would make additional pies, so each personal could have an individual one, rather than require anyone to share. Family was at the center of her life. She loved her daughters deeply and found great joy in her grandchildren. Among her greatest joys was spending time with them, taking them on outings, sharing laughter, offering warm hugs, and creating treasured memories together. She saw goodness in those she loved and encouraged them to recognize their own gifts and strengths. She hoped they would become kind, compassionate, faithful, and happy, and she prayed for them faithfully throughout her life. Those closest to Sharon knew of her constant love and concern for them. She rejoiced in their successes, worried over their struggles, and never stopped hoping for their happiness. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she carried them in her heart and in her prayers every day. The words of Psalm 31 reflect the faith and trust in God that characterized Sharon’s life: “But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God. My times are in thy hand…” (Psalm 31:14–15) Sharon is survived by her loving mother, Juanita DaCosta; her daughters, Tracy Yeulande Browning and Mikita Ashley Cox; her son-in-law, Brady Browning; her cherished grandchildren, Morgan Camille Browning, Cameron Michael Browning, and Kiyomi Calista Cox; her brothers and sisters Kelvin Alexander Cole, Colin Dean Cole, Christopher Cole, Stacey-Ann Cole, Junior Cox, Richard Anthony Cox, Colleen Cox, Janice Cox, Maurice Cox, and many other beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Lloyd Cox, and and grandmother, Wilhel Maude Morrison. Sharon’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who love her. Yet her family finds comfort in the faith she cherished, the example she set, and the love she so freely gave. If her life conveyed one enduring message, it is this: “I love you, and I pray for you.” Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7337 South Grizzly Way, West Jordan, Utah 84084. A viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Interment and dedication of the gravesite will follow at 1:00 p.m.
