Stacy Ann Whitmer

Stacy Ann Richards Whitmer, a beloved wife and mother, passed away on August 30th, 2023 after 2 ½ years of courageously fighting cancer. She was born on March 6th, 1978 in Ogden, Utah to Carol and Stewart Richards and grew up to become a wonderful example of kindness, determination, and love. She married David Whitmer. They were married in Ogden, Utah on June 17th, 1997, and later sealed for time and all eternity in the Draper, Utah temple. Stacy loved the the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, mountain biking, camping, snow and water skiing, snowmobiling, and traveling with her family. She loved her home and enjoyed hosting friends and family for parties and other events. She enjoyed taking road trips and was up for any adventure as they came along. You would often see her driving around in her convertible with Sophie, her beloved standard poodle, sitting next to her as they enjoyed a ride with the top down. Stacy loved living life to its fullest. As she and her family endured the trials of cancer, the knowledge that they are an eternal family brought great joy and made their bond grow even stronger. Stacy loved the Lord and relied on him for comfort and peace. After her diagnosis, she would often say "movement is life" and encourage others to make healthy choices as she faced her illness with courage, hope, and a strong desire to live. Her strength throughout this journey never wavered. Stacy graduated from Ogden High School in 1996 and was on the Tigerettes drill team. She attended Dixie College where she met David, the love of her life. They had two children, Katelynn and David III, whom they adored. They found great joy in supporting them in all they did. Often spending multiple hours on Saturdays cheering them on as they played lacrosse, football, and various other activities. They were lucky to create memories as they traveled the world together as a family. Stacy and her family also enjoyed relaxing and watching movies. She wanted to be wherever her family was, she loved them fiercely. Stacy is survived by her husband of 26 years David Whitmer Jr., and their 2 children Katelynn and David Whitmer. Her parents, Carol and Stewart Richards, siblings Justin (Amanda) Richards, Audry Richards, and Jeremy (Tonya) Richards, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Myrtle and Hyrum Steffen and Jesse and Ben Richards. A viewing will be held at the Herriman Stake Center from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5th. A family graveside service will be held at the Riverton City Cemetery on Wednesday, September 6th. We welcome friends and family to celebrate Stacy’s life with a “Soft Pajama Party” at her home on Saturday, September 9th, 1-3 p.m. Wear your softest “jammies” if you’d like.
