TEVITA FAOUNUKU FA

Our beloved Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle and Friend to many people, TEVITA FAOUNUKU FA was born on October 17, 1942 in Pangai, Ha’apai, Tonga to Meleane Fangapulotu Tuione and Uaisele Otunuku Fa. He was the eldest of seventeen children. He peacefully passed away in his home on August 21, 2022 at the age of 79. Fa as he was called throughout life, attended school in Suva, Fiji where he lived with his Uncle Sione Fa. He later returned to Tonga to become a skilled laborer in the construction of Liahona High School. In 1967, Fa and his beloved sister Ilaise Fakalelu immigrated to the United States with the assistance of a family friend, Howard Hartung. Soon after, he married Ngaluafe Malohifo’ou on December 2, 1967 in West Palm Beach, Florida. They later divorced. They moved to San Francisco area where he began employment with American Airlines in 1969. He had worked in the airline industry for 35 years at multiple airport locations such as SFO, LAX, SLC, and finally DFW. While in Texas, Fa was remarried to MaryAnne Polohiva Makahununiu on January 8, 1999. He retired from American Airlines on April 26, 2003. After retirement they lived in Monterey, CA and later settled in Orem, Utah. Fa is survived by his wife Polohiva of 23 years Children: William Fetu’u Siale Kafoa (Ofa) Iwalani Apo Mark Apo Ross Apo (Jessica), along with 13 grandchildren. Siblings: David, Ilaise Fakalelu, Ana, Matiu, Elizabeth, Charlene, and Ane. Preceded in death by his siblings: Valili, Mapa Ha’ano, Siale, Loni, Mataele, Naioka, Cary, Vuna, and Lila; as well as his parents, Uai and Pulotu Fa. The family would like to thank those who have reached out to extend their love and sympathy.
