Barbara Bennion Lusty

September 19, 1933 - July 20, 2017

Barbara Bennion Lusty 9/19/1933 - 7/20/2017 Our much-loved and cherished wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother, Barbara Lusty passed away July 20, 2017 at the age of 83. She passed peacefully surrounded by her husband and family. She is free from a body bound by the brutality of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. She was born on a brisk September morning in Cokeville, Wyoming to John Reed and Mary Miller Bennion. She attended Irving Junior High and East High School. She begrudgingly spent her summers at the ranch in Wyoming, working with her mother cooking for the ranch hands during her teen years. She was set up on a blind date with David to a fraternity dance party. It was the beginning of 66 years of loving companionship. They were married June 22, 1951. They lived in Victorville, California serving in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. They spent 4 years in St. Louis, Missouri for dental school with two small children in tow. She worked hard supporting him while in school and they continued to work side by side in the dental practice enjoying many relationships with patients and their families. They made many life long friends and enjoyed over 40 years sailing throughout the San Juan Islands, Canada and Bear Lake. They traveled through the Panama Canal, Caribbean, Alaska and Italy. She was part of a wonderful group of friends who played bridge together for over 50 years, until the disease made it too difficult. She was a consummate chef and took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved flowers. She was the life of the party with a distinct hearty laugh and a huge smile to match. She was petite but had such a zest for life and a love of people, she wasn’t shy when sharing her opinions. She took exceptional care of our family with selfless devotion and love. We are left with many fond memories and stories. She loved spoiling her grandchildren & great grandkids. There was always a special place in her heart for dogs, she was seldom without one. How lucky we are to have someone who makes saying goodbye so hard. She is survived by husband David and their children, Brett (Nancy) Lusty, DeeAnne (John) Schoenfeld-Kimball, Bart Lusty and Elizabeth (Greg) Taft. Grandchildren, Camille (James) Richins, Brayden Taft, Amber Schoenfeld, Brooke Lusty and Tyler Kimball. Great-grandchildren Kaylee Scheidler, Karsen Richins and McKinley Richins. Sister in law Phyllis Bennion and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents, sister Marilyn Dent and her brother Jay R. Bennion. A special thank you to Becky, Hector & Marianela, her amazing caregivers from Summit Home Health & Hospice. Your kind care minimized her suffering and gave our family time to enjoy her. Celebration of Life, Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Cottonwood Country Club, 1780 E Lakewood Dr., Holladay, UT from 6PM-8PM. Cremation and burial at sea.
