Chase P Barker

Our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home on November 28, 2023. Chase was born on April 28, 1987 to Lorin and Liliane Barker in Hong Kong. He was the third of five children and grew up in the Mount Olympus foothills of Salt Lake City, Utah. Chase loved to have fun and was not afraid of anything. He was our family’s “daredevil,” the first to jump off the highest cliffs at Lake Powell, dunk his head in the frigid water while paddle boarding on a family trip, and bomb straight down a hill while skiing. Spending much of his youth in martial arts, Chase earned his second degree black belt in Songahm Taekwondo in 2001. He was a member of the elite Demo Team, soaring high like an acrobat to break boards and inspire the younger generation of budding martial artists. Chase always loved to draw, but in his later years, took a deep interest in music composition and poetry. His computer is filled with hours of songs and riffs generated on his treasured keyboard, accompanied by scores of notebooks replete with hand written lyrics and rhymes. Chase was dutifully committed to his family, always willing to help them with household chores and projects. He could lift or move just about anything single-handedly. He adored his eight nieces and nephews. At family gatherings, they would bombard their gentle giant uncle, laughing and wrestling together. He would tease them by saying, “here comes trouble!” Chase is survived by his loving parents, Lorin and Liliane Barker, his four siblings, Ashley Barker-Tolman (Derek), Jordan (Celeste), Preston (Stephanie), and Paige (Alex), and his eight nieces and nephews, Gwen, Annalise, Colette, Raegan, Alonzo, Ryan, Esther, and Sloan. Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 10:00-11:45 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4635 South Lanark Road, Salt Lake City, Utah 84124. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery (1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City, Utah 84102). We express our love and gratitude to the countless messages, visits, meals, thoughts, and prayers on Chase’s behalf. We will miss you, Chase, but look forward to seeing you again!
