Gregory T Smith

Gregory Tims Smith (Smitty), 65, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 27th 2019. He was born on November 12 th 1953 in Logan, Utah to Alvar Smith and LaRue Smith. After he was widowed by Shirly Nolan in 1989, he married the love of his life, Vickie Ainsworth in 1994 and took on the honor and responsibility of raising his beautiful children, Nichole and Adam. Greg grew up in a loving home with his three siblings; Gary, Kim, and Marcia. Greg was a gentle soul. He made friends everywhere he went. He watched and he waited for the right moment to say the perfect thing or to crack the perfect joke. He loved his family. He especially loved to tease his little sisters. Greg was involved with high school athletics and graduated in 1971. He met his life-long friend, Louis Coleman, as a young adult. The two of them talked daily, checking in with each other. He began a successful career as a Pipe Fitter. He was proud of his job and mentored many others how to be successful in the trade. Greg thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors. He especially loved teaching his kids how to camp, hunt, and fish. Greg was adored by everyone. He had the kindest soul and did not pass judgement on anyone. He took in multiple family members in need over the years. His kind service impacted their lives tremendously. He was honest, kind, and genuine. Greg would have a new ‘dad joke’ every time you saw him and he would send you home with a care package full of goodies. Greg adored his wife and his two children. He spoiled them with love and gifts. The kids never felt unwanted or unloved. Adam and Greg had an unbreakable bond. He taught Adam how to be responsible with money, to be a good handyman, and how to be a good husband and father. He loved Nichole and spent hours on the phone with her every night. He was proud of her because she is a loving and nurturing mother. Greg and Vickie loved hosting family events. They expressed their love through music. The home was always filled with music, dancing, and laughter. Our darling Greg is now enjoying some well-deserved rest in paradise with his beautiful wife. Greg is survived by his children, Nichole (Brent) Caldwell, Adam (Carly) Spafford;grandchildren, Abigail, Carter, and Max Caldwell, Dallas and Brighton Spafford; Siblings,Kimberly Jeppson and Marcia Erickson. Greg is proceeded in death by his wife, Vickie Smith; parents, Alvar and Alice LaRue Smith,and his brothers, Gary and Clarence Smith. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00am at River Oaks 2nd ward, 8825S. 1095 W. West Jordan Utah. Viewing will be prior from 10:00am to 11:00am at the same location. Those who would like to join us at the graveside service, are invited to do so. It will be held at 3:00pm at the Logan Cemetery, 1000 N. 1200 E. Logan, UT.
