Joseph Ouray Nielsen
December 27, 2019
Joseph Ouray Nielsen son of Norman L. and Rosanne T. Nielsen passed away on December 27, 2019 in Hawaii, where he had been living for over 10 years. His death was caused by cardiac arrest, due to diabetes. Joseph grew up in Orem, graduating from Mt. View High School in 1990, where he was on the football team and played the trumpet in the Jazz Band. He served a mission in Spokane, Washington. Joseph graduated from SUU in Communications. This prepared him well, as he worked in radio sports broadcasting in Utah, health care services in Virginia, and tourism in Hawaii. He accomplished many more wonderful things in his life including marriage, fatherhood, Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow, youngest dancer of the 22 Indian Hoop Dance, volunteer at SCERA and the Miss Utah Pageant, and mentor to Native Americans, Cedar City. He was an avid sports fan, but specifically loved the BYU Cougars, the Jazz and the Washington Redskins. He is survived by his parents; Norm and Rosanne; siblings; Kristen Anderson of Orem, James Nielsen of Hawaii, Inger Labrum of St. George, Megan Lee of Florida, Melinda Stailey of Pleasant Grove, Norm Nielsen of Santa Clara, and Jonny Nielsen St. George; and children Andelin and Kellon Nielsen. He will be buried at the Orem Cemetery. Joseph loved the gospel and the Savior. He was principally driven, soft-spoken, slow to anger, kind and generous to all. He met many of life’s struggles head on and never quit.
