Kemp J. Phelps
October 26, 1956 - August 8, 2021
Kemp J. Phelps, of Round Rock, Texas, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 8, 2021, while holding his wife’s hand. At his passing, Kemp was sixty-four years old, born on October 26, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to the late Orval Kemp and Florence Charlotte (Jacobson) Phelps. Kemp was the seventh of eight children. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn (Sunny) Phelps, sons Kemp Jay (Paula) and Travis J (Rachael); 6 grandchildren Ashton Kemp, Landon Quigley, Samantha Lynn, Charlie Lou, Thatcher Kemp, and Tripp Albert; brothers O.J. and Alan, and sisters Zina Whetten and Alice Robison. Along with this family, Kemp leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and strength. Kemp was preceded in death by his parents Orval and Florence Phelps, brothers Gary and Dale Phelps, and Sister Gwen Steadman. Kemp married Sunny, the love of his life, on July 26, 1977. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City temple with their two sons. Kemp and Sunny spent every available moment together. Throughout their forty-four years of marriage, they were rarely apart. While at work, Kemp would call home frequently to ask if Sunny needed anything and to say, “I love you.” Sunny offered Kemp these same sweet words as he peacefully passed away. Kemp took pride in being the provider and patriarch of his family. Kemp was an excellent example to his two sons as they grew to have families of their own and seized every opportunity to share his wisdom with them. In addition to serving his family, Kemp was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many callings over the years but really enjoyed serving as branch president of the Davenport branch in Washington state. Kemp loved every family to whom he was able to minister throughout his life. In his professional life, Kemp enjoyed being a Teamster. After retiring from the union, Kemp worked with Texas Concrete as a mixer driver. Kemp had a passion for his work and loved his co-workers. Kemp truly helped build his cities, and his fingerprints will forever be seen throughout Spokane, Washington, and Austin, Texas. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Kemp’s life at a viewing from 9:00 am to 9:45am Saturday, August 14, 2021, in South Jordan, Utah, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 10124 1300 W, South Jordan, Utah.
