Martell Clive Holland was born February 12, 1948 in Rigby, Idaho to Gae Nell Fisher and Clive Murdell Holland. Marty passed away at home March 16th, 2017 after his third courageous battle with cancer. Marty grew up in Burley where his family owned and operated the Y-Dell Bowl. Marty excelled at bowling and received many trophies and awards for bowling throughout his life. He participated in several professional events including the US Open twice. After high School Marty attended Rick’s College then served in the Southern States Mission for the LDS Church. Marty completed his education at BYU with a business degree. Marty married Jeri C. Anderson April 26, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised their family in Burley where he worked in the business with his father. Marty was elected the County Assessor in 1986 and worked there until his retirement in 2010. He was proud to serve as President of the Idaho Association of Counties, as well as, President of the Idaho Association of County Assessors. He said, “There is no real way to make people happy when they are paying taxes, at the end of it all you have to sleep at night so you do the best you can”. Marty was a member of the L.D.S. Church serving as Bishop in the 12th and 2nd wards. Marty and Jeri served a Mission to the L.D.S. Employment Agency in Burley, as well as, a 3 year mission with the Singles Ward in Burley. One of Marty’s favorite callings was as an institute teacher prior to being diagnosed with cancer. Marty and Jeri were blessed with 5 sons, Jared (Symantha), Nate (Stacy), Chad (Jamie), Sean (Courtney), and Troy (Brooke). They have 17 grandchildren. Marty has a sister, Dede (Dick) Selvage, and a brother Bert Holland. Marty was preceded in death by both parents. Funeral services will be Saturday March 25th at 10:30 a.m. in the Burley L.D.S. State Center located at 2050 Normal Ave, with a viewing Friday evening March 24th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Burley LDS 2nd Ward Building on 515 E 16th St, Interment will follow the funeral in Ogden at 3:00 PM on Saturday at Lindquist Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch Cemetery, 1718 Combe Rd, in Ogden. The family would like to express their love and gratitude to friends and neighbors and the 2nd Ward for their kindness to the Holland family during Marty’s illness.
