Mary Louisa Stewart
July 9, 1939 - January 19, 2016
Our mother, Mary Louisa Stewart, was born July 9, 1939 to Paul H. Stewart and Louisa Call Stewart. She died January 19, 2016 of cancer. She married Ronald Kelson, later divorced. She was also married to Ken Horch and later divorced. She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Amy. Mary Lou is survived by: daughter Angie Kelson-Packer and Shaun Packer (Chloe, Nick, Cole); son Paul Kelson and Ingrid (Sofia); son Peter Kelson and Ja’Naye Payne (Ian). She is also survived by three grandsons: Cassidy Barlow, Nathanael Mortensen and Kai Barlow. Mary Lou graduated from East High School and the University of Utah. She worked as a phone operator for Mountain Bell, and later as a women’s wear buyer for ZCMI. She took time off to be a full-time mother, and returned to work as a research assistant at the University of Utah School of Medicine. As a third generation graduate of the U. of Utah, Mary Lou was a life-long fan of all things related to the university, especially men’s basketball. She liked fast, red sports cars, and drove a red Mustang to prove it. She was a skilled painter, as well as a talented seamstress and knitter. She also enjoyed reading and genealogy work. Her musical taste ranged from the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly to ABBA and U2. She liked to play Scrabble, watch cop shows on TV, and solve crossword puzzles. A visitation will take place Sunday, January 24, from 3pm to 5pm at the University Ward, 160 S. University Street, Salt Lake. Funeral services Monday at the same location from 2pm - 3pm, with visitation before from 1pm-2pm. Internment to immediately follow at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 Highland Drive in Salt Lake City. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living, and Summit Hospice for their care. We also thank Ruth Grover for her friendship and support of mom.
