Matthew Francis McNulty III

July 26, 1956 - June 5, 2015

Matthew Francis McNulty III, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 5, 2015. Matthew was born on June 26, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama, to Matthew and Mary Nell McNulty. He completed his undergraduate and law degree from Georgetown University; however, his heart always belonged to the University of Alabama, where he attended his freshman year of college. Immediately following law school, Matthew joined the law firm of Van Cott Bagley Cornwall & McCarthy, in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he served for almost 30 years as a Shareholder, Member of the Board, and Vice President. Matthew was committed to his communities providing his experience and expertise to his church, serving on the board of Holy Cross Ministries, Travelers Aid Society, and was a founding director of Stepping Stone International supporting orphanages in Kenya. Matthew is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Susan McNulty, his adoring mother, Mary Nell McNulty, his five beautiful children Abigail McNulty, Delaney McNulty, Bridget-Kate McNulty, Katie (and her husband Brett “Biscuit” Fowler), and Matthew McNulty IV, his precious grandson, Jaxson Fowler, his sister Mary Lauren McNulty, his niece and Goddaughter, Mia McNulty, his in-laws James and Tiffany Reed and Tom and Cheryl Weber, as well as his extended Southern family. Matthew loved baseball, history, southern food, Alabama football, a cold beer, bicycle shorts, his friends, and most of all his family. He was an engaging story teller with perfect comedic timing. He loved to laugh and never missed an opportunity to tell his children that he was proud of them. His mischievous Irish spirit will be missed. A private family service will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, June 11th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, in Sandy, Utah. A reception and celebration of Matthew’s life will follow immediately, all friends are welcome and encouraged to bring their favorite stories and memories. In Matthew’s honor, a contribution can be made to his children’s continued education fund at any Mountain America Credit Union. Roll Tide.
