Maud Lucile Owen

Maud Lucile Owen, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend to many, completed her earthly journey at the age of 86 on October 24, 2023 in Draper, Utah. Lucile leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, love, and service to her family and her Heavenly Father. Lucile was born to Clyde Elmer Jensen and Vera Maud Nielson in Seattle, Wash. on August 8, 1937. She was the youngest of four children. Her family relocated to Utah, where she called home for the rest of her life. She was a member of the graduating class of 1955 at Olympus High School in Holladay, and continued her education at the University of Utah. On July 23, 1962, Lucile married the love of her life and eternal companion, Thomas L. Owen, in the Utah Logan Temple. Lucile was a faithful disciple of the teachings of Christ and a woman of remarkable qualities, characterized by her sense of humor, thoughtfulness, creativity, and kindness. Her quick wit, warm laughter, and genuine spirit brightened the lives of everyone she encountered. Lucile’s home and kitchen were known as a place of warmth and love. She was revered for her culinary talents, serving family favorite recipes such as jello pretzel salad, lasagna and breadsticks, homemade ranch dressing, clam chowder, chip dip, chili, and more. Lucile was celebrated for her incredible oatmeal raisin cookies and joyful family gatherings, including Halloween parties with bottled grape juice, sprite, and dry ice root beer, grandchildren sleepover parties with breakfast orders in the morning, and Christmas celebrations filled with decorating the tree and frosting cookies. These moments were filled with laughter and love, just as she was. Service was at the core of her being and she dedicated herself to helping others in countless ways. Lucile served in a variety of church callings from primary teacher and pianist to a member of the young women presidency in her ward. In 2002, Lucille and her husband Tom were VIP hosts during the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. From 2004-2005, Lucile and Tom served in the Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission, connecting with hundreds of people from around the world. After their mission, Lucile served as an event coordinator on Temple Square and she was a Cottonwood Creek Stake records extraction coordinator. Her unwavering commitment to kindness, resilience, and faith served as an inspiration to all who were touched by her presence. A survivor in every sense, Lucile faced life's challenges with grace and unwavering determination, guided by the principles of her faith. Her love for her family, her 14 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren was immeasurable, and her nurturing love will forever be a guiding light in their lives. Lucile was known not only for her faith and service but also for her creative talents. One of the most cherished places in her home was her sewing room. Adorning the walls were pictures of her granddaughters wearing custom ornate blessing dresses that she had created for them, marking an important and cherished moment in their lives. Lucile also devoted countless hours to creating beautiful handmade quilts, especially for her beloved 14 grandchildren. Her quilts were more than just fabric and thread; they were a labor of love. As she carefully pieced together each quilt and dress, she was, in essence, stitching love, warmth, and cherished memories into every fiber. Lucile Owen is survived by her loving husband, Thomas L. Owen, and her children: Kristine Headman (Corey), Sherri Lloyd (Vaughn), Mark Owen (Michelle), and John Owen (Jenn). She was preceded in death by her infant son, Richard Robert Douglas, her father, Clyde Elmer Jensen, her mother, Vera Maud Nielson, her brothers, Clyde Robert Jensen and Don Clifford Jensen, and her sister, Vera Arlene McPhie. In honor of her life and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice, or to take family out to dinner – one of Lucile’s favorite activities. Lucile's legacy will continue to inspire us to follow the path of faith, service, and love that she walked throughout her life. Her memory will forever hold a cherished place in our hearts, guiding us through the generations to come, reminding us of the principles of faith and love she held so dear.
