Richard Earl Dority

July 9, 1937 - May 31, 2016

I was born on July 9th, 1937 in Salt Lake City at my home in the avenues to Milton Henry and Eleanor Porter Dority. I attended school at Lowell, Bryant Jr High, West High and the University of Utah. I served a mission to New Zealand (1957-60). In 1960 I was drafted into the Army for 2 years and served at Ft Lewis, WA in the 4th Division, 22nd Infantry. On Nov 27th, 1961 I was sealed to my sweetheart, Idonna Gwen Richards, in the Salt Lake Temple. We lived in Kearns, Utah for 35 years where we raised our 3 sons, 1 dog and several cats. I have served in many callings in the LDS Church including Bishop, Stake Presidency and Ordinance Worker in the Jordan Rivers and Oquirrh Mtn Temples. I would like to give my sincerest thanks to: Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost; Idonna and my family; Milt and Eleanor and their families; Alice and Charlie Oliver and their family; The Richards Family; A great bunch of cousins; The North 20th Ward youth leaders and youth, namely Bishops John K Fetzer, Charles J Ross, Seymour K Liechty, good friend Clarence M Wilson Jr and others; The people of New Zealand, Kearns, and Glenmoor; Marvelous, inspired church leaders over the years; The LDS Church Family History program, the indexers and all who put family history on the internet; The Teamsters Union and Teamster friends; Dr Scott Samuelson and the staff of the Utah Cancer Specialists; Sheryl Dority, my favorite R.N. I was preceded in death by my parents, grandson Jonathan Richard, brothers Keith,Melvin, Monroe (died Dec 7th, 1941 on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor), Robert, Milton Jr, and Allen. Sisters Ella, Elese, Mary, Alice, Mildred and Beth. I am survived by my wife Idonna, sons Rick(Sheryl), Jeff(Mary) and Robert(Rebecca). Grandchildren Ben, Zach, Erin Batty(Quin), Braedon, Ian, Laura and Connor. Sister Carol(Dale) Roberts, I didn’t like anyone sending me flowers when I was with you and I still feel the same way. So in lieu of flowers, please take a friend to lunch or make a donation to The Huntsman Cancer Institute. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Glenmoor 5th Ward Building, 4881 Cindy Lane, South Jordan, UT. A viewing will take place preceeding the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 am and also the night before, Friday, June 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the same church building. Please share memories and condolences at www.serenityfhs.com.
