"Winkie" Ola Ruth Mobley Rush

June 21, 1923 - May 8, 2022

WINKIE RUSH Ola Ruth Mobley Rush, 98 years and 47 weeks, passed away on 8 May 2022 at Legacy Village in Taylorsville, Utah. She was born in 1923 in Adams, Oregon. Nicknamed “Winkie” as a child for her love of a song her father sang to her. The refrain was: “Lolly wo Winkie doodle lolly wo lolly wo winkie doodle lolly wo.” She was born on June 21, 1923, the longest day of the year. She married Edwin Lewis Rush. They were married in Eugene, Lane, Oregon on 24 July 1945. They were sealed in the Oakland Temple in 1968. Winkie’s life as a military wife spanned over 20 years and took her to Japan, the Philippine Islands, Washington, Oregon, Texas, and California. Winkie was also an artist who hung her charcoal drawings in her home. Other hobbies included gardening, sewing, doing crossword puzzles, and reading. She was able to travel to England and France with her oldest sister Ladelle Mobley Houglum. Until retirement she was a nurse who worked in Urology. Winkie received her Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics from San Jose State College in California. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1965 and was endowed in 1967. Winkie served in the Church in many capacities including Primary Teacher, Sunday School teacher, and Cub Scout Den leader. She was a genealogist and was a Savior in Mt. Zion. One of her last callings, at age 98, was to write monthly letters to ward missionaries. According to her granddaughter, Alysa Leigh, she read her scriptures and prayed daily. In the community, she served 17 years as a volunteer in the Special Ed Department of Bennion Junior High School and also served as a substitute teacher who the students addressed as “Grandma.” She is remembered by her family as a homemaker who kept a very clean household; she baked lemon bars, brownies, black candy, taffy, fixed homemade orange rolls and chocolate mint cream pie from scratch. She is survived by her three children: Nancy Jean Rush Wing (divorced Thomas David Wing), (Livonia, New York), Terrill James Rush Lewis(Lynette Nielsen) (West Valley City, Utah), and Carole Joyce Rush Dehnel (John G Dehnel) (Taylorsville, Utah). Also survived by six grandchildren: David Jonathan Wing, Aleta Narelle Wing Leigh (Michael Eldon Leigh), Nadine Renee Wing Bailey(Travis James Bailey), Yvonne Michelle Wing Lyon Hawkins(Chase Lee Hawkins), Kirk Edward Dehnel, and Laura Jean Dehnel. At the time of her death she had 12 great grandchildren: Alysa Narelle Leigh, Keven Thomas Leigh, Keeth Eldon Leigh, Sage Vivian Lyon, Violet Rae Lyon, Memory Rose Hawkins, Ember Bay Hawkins, Autumn Harley Hawkins, Zoe Karen Bailey, Megan Elayne Bailey, Miranda Gwen Bailey, and Veronica Selene Bailey. Winkie was proceeded in death by her eternal companion Edwin Lewis Rush and the entire Mobley family which included her parents: John Franklin Mobley, his wife Florence Nina Terrill Mobley and her five siblings which are: Angela Ladelle Mobley (husband Roger Houglum), Chester Marshall Mobley (wife Bessie Mae Roberts), Mary Belle Mobley, David Terrill Mobley (wife Irene Bernice Oakes) and Bruce Justin Mobley (wife Martha Narelle Porter). Also, a granddaughter: Vivian Lorraine Wing, a niece Rhonda Denise Mobley Hass and a grandniece Kendi Delyse Hagans Highland. She was the longest living Mobley in her genealogical history. Thank you to Legacy Village of Taylorsville who gave Winkie such kind care during her stay and subsequent passing. Winkie was an extrovert who was remembered by the staff as a spunky individual who let them know she was going to be 99 on her birthday in June. She had a vibrant testimony of Jesus Christ.
