Alberta Maude Payne Schwantes

Alberta Maude Payne Schwantes; Born Aug 11, 1926 to Albert Elmo Payne and Eunice Talley Payne in Safford, Arizona. Married John W Schwantes May 29, 1947 and later divorced. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Max Payne (Beverly Payne). Survived by her sister Joan Perkins (C.J. Perkins) of The Woodlands, Texas. Also survived by her children Jannis Gardner (Greg); Sheryl Martin (Brad); Ranell Teerlink (Mark); Lannae Orgill (Chris), all of Salt Lake City, and Jayson Schwantes (Andrea) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She was married to John W. Schwantes May 29, 1947, later divorced. She lived in Salt Lake City Utah the last 45 years of her life in the Little Cottonwood 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also lived in Granger and Orem, Utah; Idaho Falls, Idaho, Safford Arizona, El Paso Texas and Louisville, Kentucky. Alberta served in numerous Church callings, including R.S. President and with her beautiful soprano voice, enjoyed singing in the ward choir. She was employed at Deseret Federal Savings and Loan; Zions Bank, Heritage Mountain in Provo, and University of Utah. She was a wonderful seamstress and made many dresses for her girls and also crocheted the edges of hundreds of baby blankets. Alberta was well known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Many times the ward members would see her walking up and down the streets. Although she was physically strong up to the very end and her mind succumbed to Dementia, her personality still came through. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer on April 3rd and was relieved of her infirmities just 3 days later on April 6, 2014. Thanks to all who helped with her care, keeping an eye on her when she wandered, and especially family and neighbors, wonderful home teachers, visiting teachers, and friends. Additionally our gratitude goes to The Beehive Homes and Brighton Hospice for their sensitive and caring actions. The Funeral will be held on Thursday April 10, 2014 at the Little Cottonwood 1st Ward at 11:00 AM: Address: 6350 Rodeo Lane, SLC, Utah 84121 and the Graveside service will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens on 10600 South 1950 East, Sandy, Utah 84092
