Calleen Johnson Passey

Calleen Johnson Passey—beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father on January 24, 2026, surrounded by her family at her home in Riverton, Utah. She was 78 years old. Born January 8, 1948, in Murray, Utah, Calleen was the third child of Erik and Elna Ruth (Bowen) Johnson. She was raised in Idaho and graduated from Meridian High School, where she spent several years on the drill team and was a loyal friend to many. Her caring nature continued throughout her life. Calleen attended Brigham Young University and later married her eternal companion, Steven Frank Passey, on August 27, 1968, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a life that spanned several states, including Utah, Colorado, Texas, Washington, and California, before eventually making Riverton, Utah, their longtime home. Calleen’s heart was always in her home. A devoted homemaker and talented seamstress, she was known for her meticulous attention to detail. She lived for gathering her family for meals, birthdays, and holidays, ensuring everyone felt welcome and loved. Calleen loved cheering on the Utah Jazz and BYU football and basketball teams. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Calleen served with dedication in the Relief Society and Young Women organizations. Her most recent calling was teaching a Primary class; she truly loved the children she taught. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Steven F. Passey; her four sons, Steven (Tamara) Passey of Mesa, AZ, Spencer (Pamela) Passey of South Jordan, UT, Duane (Melanie) Passey of Herriman, UT, and Chris (Nikki) Passey of South Jordan, UT; her daughter Emily (Chance) Harding of Eagle Mountain, UT; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Dick (Gail) Johnson of South Jordan, UT; Darrell Johnson of Cottonwood, UT; Judy (John) Preston of Harvest, AL; Allece (Bill) Birnel of Topeka, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, Erik and Elna Johnson, and her beloved grandson, Landon Chance Harding. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:00am at the Manti Chapel, 2361 W 13400 S, Riverton, Utah. A Viewing will take place Friday, January 30, 2026 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 10:00am to 10:45am at the same place. Burial will be at Herriman City Cemetery following the services.
