Clare Cross Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Clare Cross died peacefully, in Salt Lake City, Utah early in 2026. She was 67 years old. Clare’s life was one of intellectual curiosity, artistic expression, and connections with her family and community. Clare pursued her passion for literature and language by earning degrees in Kansas. She then moved to Michigan, where she pursued a P.h.D. in English literature, raised her children, and established a warm community of supportive friends who shared her interests. Most of her career was spent as a copy editor for scientific journals. Clare was a poet and author. Her poetry appeared in publications such as “Rattle”, “Bellevue Literary Review”, “Crab Orchard Review”, and most recently, “The Southern Review”. She co-authored a book, Goodnight Keith Moon, and wrote sections of textbooks for college students. In addition to her literary accomplishments, Clare was an avid fencer and an active member of the Ann Arbor Dueling Society. Her dedication to this art form demonstrated her adventurous spirit and commitment to mastering new challenges. She enjoyed trivia outings with a team of friends and created trivia questions around unusual and amusing topics. Clare cherished her family above all else. She raised her children with love and kindness, and she understood the importance of love and respect for children's feelings right from the very start. She met trials with courage and humor, and she knew how to make the best out of difficulties both large and small. She is known to have said "As long as we are going to die in a tornado, we might as well have another ice cream sandwich". She is survived by her daughter, Erin, and son-in-law, Ethan; her son, Kevin, and daughter-in-law, Jessica; and her beloved grandchildren: Elizabeth (Kaiden), David, Annika, Isaac, Sarah, Nina, and Levi. She is also survived by sisters Rosanne (Frank) and Elizabeth (John), and nieces and nephews Sydney, Maclean, Katherine, and Alex. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Bernice Cross and brother Albert Cross, Jr. Clare's legacy endures through the beauty of her written words and the love she shared with those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
