David Bruce Cripps

David Bruce Cripps The eldest child of Teddy and Erlene Cripps. Born October 20th, 1951 in San Bernardino, California. Passed away January 31st, 2014 in Pleasant Grove Utah. He was premature by two months and had a birth defect in his nasal passages that blocked air flow. The doctor preformed a tracheotomy and his life was saved. At eight months old he had the first of many surgeries to correct his breathing. In 1964 David participated in a 50 mile hike along the John Muir trail with the Boy Scouts. David’s Mom had packed 6 pairs of socks that he never used. He had blisters on his blisters when he got home. It was also around this same time that the family moves to Ridgecrest, California. David attended Burroughs High School where he excelled in Choir. The summer of 1970 the family took an extended vacation through the western part of the United States. During this trip David bumped his head causing detached retinas that affected his vision. After High School he attended Bakersfield College where he ran for student body V.P. and won easily. David spent two summers working at the Grand Canyon working at the Bright Angel Lodge where he earned money which he saved to enroll at BYU. He worked at the Morris Center to continue to pay for his education, graduating with a B.A. in English. He enjoyed working for Brother Ashby so much so that he continued to work thereafter graduation. When David turned 41 and was still single the family was convinced that he was going to be a confirmed bachelor for the rest of his life but, he met Kathy at an LDS Church History tour and he was smitten. They were married in the Provo Temple on March 1st, 1997. He spent his life working at BYU dining services and was well loved by his family and co-workers. At 60 years of age David the writer, the poet and loving husband began to decline and his light gradually dimmed. On January 31st, 2014 David returned to the loving arms of his Father in Heaven. We will miss his sweet spirit and strong testimony of Jesus Christ David is survived by his wife Kathy Marie Lesa Cripps, Two Brothers Daniel R. (Lila) Cripps of Magna, Utah, Donald M.(Terry) Cripps. Three sisters Debra Cripps, Diana Davis, Denise(Dan) Husk. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be at the Timpanogos 2nd Ward located at 800 North 100 West in Pleasant Grove, Utah Saturday February 8th, 2014. A viewing will be at 10 a.m. followed by his funeral services at 11.
