John William Mann

John William Mann, 48, passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, from a medical event while training for his next race. He is a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He is deeply loved, and his loss is felt beyond words. He was born on March 13, 1978, to Shauna Sybrowsky Mann and William Jay Mann in Salt Lake City, Utah. He joined his big sister, Kristin, and was later blessed with his younger brother, Jared. From the age of five, John was raised by his mom and his adored Grandpa John Sybrowsky, who was an important influence throughout his life. As a young man, John served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Austria Vienna Mission, an experience that strengthened the unwavering faith that would guide him throughout his life. John met the love of his life, Liz, while working at the University of Utah. They were married on May 22, 2003, in the Salt Lake Temple and went on to build a beautiful life and family together. They welcomed their first son, John Benjamin, while living in Eugene, Oregon. The little family moved back to Salt Lake City and welcomed Jacob Zachary, followed by Clare Elizabeth. John’s greatest priorities are his family, serving God, and serving those around him. He is loyal to the Lord and good to his bones. The way he cares for his family is enviable. He arranged his professional life so he could be there for the moments that mattered, never missing an activity involving Liz or the kids. He was a proud supporter of Highland High baseball, football, and track, where he loved watching his sons compete. He never missed Clare’s dance recitals or orchestra performances. At home, John loved cooking for his family and could regularly be found in the kitchen sporting his favorite apron. John has remarkable spiritual depth, balanced by a sense of humor so sharp and perfectly timed that he could instantly connect with others through his quick wit. His humor had a way of bridging social gaps and pulling people together. John loves others with his whole heart. He has an abiding trust in his Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. His faith was reflected in the way he lived and served. John served as bishop of the Stratford East Ward, as a member of the stake high council, and as stake Young Men president. He also organized countless ward activities and found great joy in bringing people together. He gave generously of his time, his talents, and himself, and in return, he is greatly loved by those he served. John graduated from the University of Utah in 2002 and went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2007. He had a distinguished legal career, most recently as a partner at Kirton and McConkie. As meaningful to him as the work itself were the relationships he formed along the way. He treasured the close friendships he shared with his colleagues and associates. John is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Mann; his children, Elder John Benjamin Mann, Jacob Zachary Mann, and Clare Elizabeth Mann; his mother, Shauna Sybrowsky Mann; his father, William “Bill” Mann; his sister, Kristin Acree; his brother, Jared (Amber) Mann; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Taylor Forrest Acree; his cherished “Gramps,” John Sybrowsky; his grandmother, Clare Sybrowsky; and his grandparents, Bill and Virginia Mann. A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake Highland Stake, 2738 S. Fillmore Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may also visit on Friday, August 14, from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
