John David "Dave" Peterson

John David “Dave” Peterson was called home to the loving arms of his Savior on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 after a longtime battle with prostate cancer. Through it all, he maintained an unwavering spirit of joy and optimism, while relying on the Lord for strength and peace. Dave was born in Henderson, Nevada on September 12, 1943, to his late parents, John Chester Russell “Pete” Peterson and Elaine Ballard. He had fond memories of his childhood, playing alongside his brothers, Raymond (d. 2023) and Marc, and their many beloved cousins. He met his lifelong sweetheart, Judy McIntyre, at BYU, and married her June 4, 1966, in the Los Angeles Temple – dedicating their lives to each other and their family for almost 60 years. A most notable characteristic was Dave’s love and devotion to his Savior, Jesus Christ. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in the Central States Mission from 1962-64, beginning his lifelong discipleship as a missionary, teacher, minister and friend. Although he served in many capacities, his true gift was seeking the “one”. His hand of fellowship and generous acts of service had a significant impact on countless lives. Later in life, he served a mission at the Granite Mountain Records Vault, in addition to investing time in temple and family history work. Dave (a.k.a. “No Leak”) was a well-respected master plumbing contractor and pipefitter who also taught for many years at the Local 525 Union Apprenticeship Program. He worked in the Las Vegas area for over 28 years before moving to Utah, where he eventually retired. A saying of his was, “Plumbers can fix everything!” And in his case, it was true. As a skilled craftsman he had an eye for perfection and could build and fix anything. He loved a good competition, but also had a way of making everything fun. Some of his favorite hobbies included fishing, golfing, playing cards with family and slalom water skiing (which he enjoyed into his mid 60’s). Many will remember him singing behind a guitar, and his ability to find a harmony to any song. In his later years, he and Judy developed a passion for travel, exploring the world with dear friends and family. Above all, Dave’s most treasured accomplishment was his family. He had a unique way of making every one of his children, grandchildren and extended family feel valued and loved. If there was any special or significant moment in his family’s life, he was there. He was a natural mentor, always taking every opportunity to pass down any wisdom, skill or talent he had to offer his family. His sheer goodness and exemplary faith will provide a firm foundation for generations to come. Carrying on Dave’s legacy, are his eternal companion, Judy; his 4 children, Bret (Tammy) Peterson, Kimber (Terry) Stratton, Tiffiny (Eric) Porter, Crystal (Ryan) Theriault, (John Roy); his 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his brother, Marc; and many other cherished family members, including nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12682 S Starlite Hill Ln, Herriman, UT 84096. The funeral service will follow at 1 PM.
