Nilo Salgado Ocana

Nilo Salgado Ocana passed away on May 6th, 2015 in Sandy, Utah. He was born September 26th, 1939 in Cebu, Philippines to Teodorico Ocana and Felicedad Salgado Ocana. He married Buenaventurada “Betty” Tabada. They were married in Cebu, Philippines on January 27th, 1960. Nilo literally danced his way through life. At the age of 17, Nilo began competing in dance competitions and soon received the official title of the “King of Rock & Roll” for over ten years. Even after the title was passed on to fellow dancers, Nilo continued with pride to dance at every opportunity. Even until his last few days in mortality, you could find Nilo dancing to his favorite artist, Elvis Presley. He was a wonderful source of entertainment to both family and friends. Nilo started stage-acting in the early 1960s. He made his first big-screen debut in the early 1970s. He continued doing Filipino soap operas on the radio and was a celebrated actor and artist throughout the Visayas Islands. He later worked as a bodyguard for various government officials including the mayor and governor of Cebu. Nilo continued to work his way to America, where he continued to work hard in all the job opportunities he received. He was notorious for his hard work and dedication to his employers and co-workers. Nilo Ocana was the definition of a ‘family-man’ and loved to be surrounded by those he loved. He loved his children, but especially his grand-children. He loved and supported them with all of his heart. His legacy is spread throughout the world, with his children residing in three different countries and continents. Nilo Salgado Ocana was survived by Betty Tabada Ocana, his wife, in addition to children; Dolly Ocana Gieselmann, Rhandy Ocana, Dhalni Ocana, Nora Ocana Olson, and Hazel Ocana Harris. Grandchildren include Sven Gieselmann, Dennis Gieselmann, Cindy Gieselmann, Doyle Ocana, Dale Ocana, Delon Ocana, Danielle Mae Ocana, Dominique Ocana, and Samantha Olson. Great-great children include Tyler Gieselmann, Spencer Ocana, and Aaron Ocana. And his best friend, Zoey Lily [the dog]. Nilo was preceded in death by his parents, Teodorico Ocana and Felicedad Ocana; in addition to his siblings, Sofronio Ocana, Vicente Ocana, Sonny Ocana, Lenny Ocana, Aurea Ocana, and Teddy Ocana. The viewing for Nilo Salgado Ocana will be held on Tuesday, May 12th, 2015 at 9:00 am. This will precede the funeral that will begin at 11:00 am at the LDS chapel at 9331 South 300 East in Sandy, Utah. The cemetery service will be held directly after at the Crescent Cemetery at 11105 South State Street in Sandy, Utah.
