Po'alo'i Toutai

Po’alo’i Toutai, lovingly known as ‘Alo’i, passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2025, at the age of 75, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born in Mo’unga’one, Ha’apai, to her loving parents Lisala Sau and Vaioleti Kati Sau. Po’alo’i grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the beauty of island life. She loved swimming, and riding horses with her friends during her youth. She was known for her bright smile, her generosity, and her unshakable love for God. On January 17, 1972, in Tongoleleka, Ha’apai, Tonga, she married her eternal companion, Samuela Taliauli Toutai. Together, they built a strong and faithful family, later moving to Salt Lake City, Utah on November 11, 2012, where they continued to share their love and devotion with those around them. Po’alo’i was a woman of many talents and joys. She was a talented mat weaver, pouring patience and care into every piece she created — a reflection of the way she lived her life. She also loved gardening plants and flowers, singing hymns, and spending time by the ocean, collecting clams and seafood. She took pride in helping her husband sell crops at the markets and was always dressed beautifully and full of grace. She had a sweet tooth for chocolate, and nothing made her happier than spending time with her 22 grandchildren and her great-grandchild, whom she loved deeply. Her faith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints guided her entire life. She was baptized on September 23, 1968, endowed, and later sealed with her family in the Nuku’alofa Tonga Temple on August 13, 1983, as one of the first families to do so. She found joy in serving others and teaching her children the gospel. Every early morning, she gathered her family for scripture study and made sure to hold Family Home Evenings, nurturing both faith and unity. Her favorite hymn, “Monu ka ko ha Monu ne To,” reminded her of the blessings she cherished, and her favorite scripture, Alma 37:35, inspired her lifelong devotion to learning and living the word of God. Po’alo’i will always be remembered for her loving kindness, giving heart, and joyful laughter that could fill any room. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue to bless generations to come. She is survived by her beloved husband Samuela Taliauli Toutai, her six children — Sione Tupou Toutai, Pau Tupou Toutai, Siosiana Fili, Mele Tonga Katoa, Viliami Ala Toutai, and Vili Fakataha Toutai - as well Her 22 grandchildren — Siosi’ana Tongaonevai, Ane Tonga’onevai, Latai Finehika Kauvaka Fili, Lupineti Toutai, Po’aloi Toutai, ‘Ilaisaane Toutai, Po’aloi Sau Toutai, Janet Toutai, Tonga Haapai Toutai, Samiuela Tongaonevai, Konivesio Toutai, Penisoni Tongaonevai, Tala Ki Vavau Fili, Vili Fakataha Toutai, Samiuela Taliauli Tongaonevai Toutai, Paumolevuka Fili, Viliami Ala Toutai, Sione Tupou Toutai, Maa’imoa Havili, Sosaia Tongaonevai, Viliami Ala Havili, Charlie Toutai, Viliami Ala Toutai and 1 great-grandchild - Sione Tupou Tongaonevai. Though she was blessed by 6 children, Po’alo’i’s heart was big enough for more, she lovingly raised her two nieces Sivao Halatokoua and Illaisa’ane ‘Ofa Mafi. Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
