Stephen was born August 17, 1942 in Logan, Utah to William (Bill) Arthur Clayton and Olive Margeret Clark. Bill and Olive had four children: Carole, Sharon, Stephen, and Winston. They moved a lot as they were raising their children but enjoyed many vacations as a family. Eventually they settled in Rexburg, Idaho where Stephen met Dawnette Tolman. Stephen and Dawnette enjoyed the Dance Club together and were soon engaged. After the engagement Stephen served a mission in the Central British Mission while Dawnette served in the Great Lakes Mission. After their missions were concluded, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 19, 1964. Stephen continued with his education, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah. He was hired by Sperry Univac – Unisys – L3 Comm (the company changed names frequently). He was a dedicated and successful employee there for decades. Stephen and Dawnette had five children: Adam, Jared, Jennifer, David, and Michael. Stephen was a dedicated provider for his family. He taught his children many skills as he helped them finish basements or build a house. He was a handyman and gardener in every home he lived in. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would find a way to figure it out. He was also a very talented singer. Dawnette enjoyed accompanying him on the piano as he shared his tenor voice. Stephen served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He always enjoyed singing and directing the choir. Some additional callings were as Elder’s Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Bishopric Councilor, Executive Secretary and more. He was a faithful home teacher and minister in every ward he lived in. After forty years of marriage, Stephen and Dawnette divorced in 2004. Later Stephen married Carmen Marina Rodriguez. Marina has five children: Jose, Evelyn, Marilyn Javier and Anahis. Stephen welcomed Marina and her children with kindness, patience, and genuine love. He embraced them as his own and devoted himself to strengthening the bonds that united their home. Through his example, he taught the importance of honesty, humility, forgiveness, hard work, and treating others with compassion and respect. Stephen encouraged Marina and her children to deepen their relationships with the Savior. He lovingly taught the importance of daily prayer, studying the scriptures, making and honoring sacred covenants, and serving others with a willing heart. More than through words, he taught all by the quiet example of the life he lived each day. Together, Stephen and Marina built a home filled with love, peace, respect, and unwavering faith. Their home became a place where family was cherished, friendships were welcomed, and the gospel of Jesus Christ was lived with sincerity and devotion. Stephen will be remembered as a devoted husband and grandfather, a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, and a man whose quiet service touched countless lives. His legacy of faith, integrity, kindness, and Christlike love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. While his family mourns his passing, they also rejoice in the knowledge that through the Savior’s Atonement and the blessings of eternal families, death is not the end. They look forward with hope and faith to the joyful day when they will be reunited with Stephen once again. Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings (Carole and Sharon). He is survived by his brother Winston. He is survived by his wife Marina and her children Jose (Malissa), Evelyn (Arnaldo), Marilyn (Scott), Javier (Milagro), and Anahis (Mike). He is also survived by his former wife Dawnett Tolman Muir and their five children: Adam (Sherene), Jared (Cheryl), Jennefer, David (Sophie) and Michael. Stephen is also survived by a total of 33 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Stephen’s funeral will be held on Saturday July 18th at 11:00 am followed by the burial at the West Jordan Cemetery. Viewing hours are on July 17th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on July 18th from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. The viewing and services will be at the Brookfield Ward chapel located at 6710 West 4145 South, West Valley City, Utah.
