Tyson Ray Mortensen

Tyson Ray Mortensen, 35, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2021 while enjoying one of his favorite past times, fishing in Mazatlán. Ty was born on September 13, 1985 in Bountiful, Utah the son of Troy G. and Lora (Jensen) Mortensen. He graduated from Roy High School and soon after joined the United States Marine Corps, serving four years of active duty prior to honorably receiving a military retirement in 2008. From a very young age Ty had a sparkle in his eye, an amazing energy and mischievous curiosity for all things. Over time it was these characteristics that developed into some of his greatest strengths. (We see these same qualities in his children.) He was adventurous and incredibly knowledgeable of many things. He loved to travel and had an insatiable need for new experiences, different cultures and new relationships. He made friends easily and took interest in how our individual contributions could bring people together. This allowed him to always “know a guy.” If he didn’t know something he always knew somebody who did. Ty was a natural born leader. He could take command of a room with his sheer presence. His confidence and “larger than life” attitude were qualities that made people naturally want to follow. Growing up Ty enjoyed scouting and was very athletic. He participated in and enjoyed all sports excelling in baseball and Folkstyle wrestling. He had a passion for all things outdoors and loved spending time with others or taking time for himself while hunting, fishing and camping. All who knew Ty, knew that everything about him was larger than life. He lived for every moment and was loved for his energetic spirit, protective nature, and sense of humor. Tyson is survived by his children, Russell (14) and Allison (7); trusted companion animal Rio; parents Lora (Hector) and Troy; his sisters Mauricia (John), Sophi (Kyle), Michelle (Francisco), Krystina (Carlos), Esther (Noe), and Shania; paternal grandmother Nancy; his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by his grandparents Sylvan R. and Nellie Jensen, Dale R. Mortensen; aunt Annette Rodartet; cousins Joe Knighton and Mitchell Kueffner; companion animal Moose. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 20 2021 at 11:00a.m. at Bountiful Memorial Park Cemetery (2224 S 200 W, Bountiful, Utah 84010). There will be an informal gathering for all friends and family directly following the service at 267 Maple Drive, North Salt Lake, UT 84054.
