Vaiopaa Talaia Laumatia

On March 23rd 2023, our beloved father Vaiopa’a (Vai) Talaia Laumatia was called home to Our Heavenly Father, where he was finally reunited with his eternal companion Salu Hakila Tuia. Vai was born of goodly parents to Talaia Laumatia and Sifea Afamasaga on October 28 th 1954 in the village of Fausaga, Samoa. He is survived by his children, Melody, Eldon, Aaron, Jasmine (son-in-law Andrew Pornintra) Jade (son-in-law Loto To’o), Cameron (daughter-in-law Olivia), Jordan, Charity and grandchildren Maylea, Toga, Khun, Min, Mali and Naseri. He is also survived by his siblings Poiva, Siasulu, Saleilua, Alofa, Manuele, Pala, Lagaali, Mele, Vaaiga, Sila and Sifea. Vai was loved by many and will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was a man of many talents who was able to embrace his friends and family through his countless and selfless services. His attributes include his ability to organize and facilitate support services for many Pacific Island communities. Vai served in many leadership roles in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In Hawaii, he served several times as a Bishop then moved to Utah County where he continued his service as a Branch president for the newly developed Samoan branch. Not long after this he was then called as the first Samoan bishop to Orem 9 th ward. Vai’s love for his family was unconditional, he loved everyone and most notably he loved all his brothers and sisters, his nieces and nephews. However, his greatest joy was being married and sealed to his eternal companion Salu, and being with his children and grandchildren. His love and faith of Our Savior was unquestionable and his testimony was unwavering. We will miss our wonderful father, and would like to invite you to celebrate the memory of his life.
