Vaughn William Kay

Vaughn William Kay passed away peacefully in his sleep on the 2nd of December, 2023 at his grandson's home in Elko, NV surrounded by his family. Vaughn was born on the 17th of January in 1940 to Charles Albert Kay and Helen Turner. Vaughn met the love of his life, Betty Jean Kay, and married her on October 25th of 1957, and they were later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple on February 27th of 2021. They had three beautiful children together, Charles, Cindy and Patty. Vaughn cared for Betty when she was sick and continued to struggle with health issues himself after her passing. Vaughn lived a long, amazing life and was an inspiration to so many, especially his grandchildren. He was blessed to be able to go to Heaven and be with his wife and kids again. Vaughn loved spending his time in St. George and especially at the family cabin that he built himself. He never sat still and was always looking for something to do or fix. He loved his time with his family, including his 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Vaughn was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his son Charles, and his two daughters Cindy and Patty; his parents Charles Albert, Helen Turner, and stepmother Phyllis Gilpatrick; and his siblings Carolyn Kay and David Kay. He is survived by his sister Joyce Kay, sister in law Cheryl Blair; his son in law Jim Hendrickson; his grandchildren Terra and Joe Newton, Kimberly Atkinson and Scott Cartwright, Vaughn and Sharleen Hendrickson, Shawn and Jessica Hendrickson, Katrina Atkinson and Miguel Torres, Alex Atkinson and Jordan Coones; his great-grandchildren Anthony Perez, Tyler and Madysen Newton, Jessica Romero, Christian Perez, Dylan Hendrickson, Jasmine Romeo, Carter Hendrickson, Calvin Hendrickson, Alyssa Hendrickson, Gabriela Perez, Autumn Hendrickson, Mayan Prevo, Nino C’Debaca, and Logan Hendrickson; and his great-great-grandchildren Lacy and Atticus Newton. A viewing will take place at the Murray 29th Ward Chapel located at 6300 South 700 West, Murray, Utah on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 10:30am with funeral services to follow at 12:00pm. A graveside service will follow around 1:30pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park located at 3401 South Highland Drive in Millcreek, Utah. Thank you to all who cared for Vaughn including Dr. Johnson, Kaylan and Connie Holmes and his hospice nurse in Elko, NV as well as all of his friends, family and LDS church family.
