Xavier Mateo Hunkin

Xavier Mateo Hunkin was born in Houston, Texas on August 1st, 2001, to John “Juju” Hunkin and Fabi Gonzalez. Xavier was 21 years old when he passed away on January 16th, 2023, in South Jordan, Utah. Xavier graduated from Klein Oak High School in 2019 and was part of the International Baccalaureate program and inducted into the National Honors Society, Spanish Chapter. He attended Texas State University’s San Marcos campus. He loved to play and watch football. He also enjoyed playing basketball and often referred to himself as “Hunk-n-Dunks.” He loved that Klein Oak High School's colors were black and yellow, the same as his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. His infectious smile could light up a room, bringing joy to others. He loved his friends, his family, and making others laugh. He was always up for fun and adventure. Xavier enjoyed reading and music. He enjoyed developing his music skills and had aspirations to open a music production studio. He lived in Houston, TX and Salt Lake City, UT. Xavier is survived by his parents: Fabi Gonzalez and John “Juju” Hunkin, and his brothers Tyson Malakai Hunkin and Elisaia Alofa Hunkin. He was adored and loved by his family and friends. He is survived by his “big fat Mexican crazy familia” and all his loving Samoan Aiga. Xavier is preceded in death by his grandmothers Judith Sanchez Gonzalez, and Meisi Hunkin, his grandfather John Hunkin Sr., and his aunt Lulu Hunkin. Services for Xavier will be held Saturday, January 21st ,2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 11632 S Night Heron Rd. South Jordan Utah 84009. Friends and family are invited to attend a Viewing from 10:00am - 12:00pm. MST The funeral service will directly follow from 12:30pm - 1:30 pm MST. The graveside services will be held at the Herriman City Cemetery 12465 S 6000 W Herriman, Utah 84096 at 2:00pm MST. A celebration of Xaviers life will be held that evening, Saturday, January 21st, 2023, from 6:00pm - 10:00pm MST at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 5246 W Gossamer Way Riverton, Utah 84096. In honor of Xaviers favorite colors the family has asked that attendees wear black and yellow. The following week on Saturday, January 28th 2023 there will also be a Luau Celebration of Xavier’s Life in Houston, Texas held at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 16535 Kleinwood Dr. Spring, TX 77379 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm CST. There will also be a link for those who are unable to attend the funeral services from 12:30pm - 1:30pm MST to view online.
